You may be aware of the worldwide shortage of intravenous contrast used in CT studies. Due to Covid restrictions in Shanghai, the main global supplier’s production facility in that city has experienced an unexpected shutdown which is resulting in an international supply interruption.
Intravenous contrast is used in some CT studies to allow better differentiation of the soft tissues and can help define what is seen on the scan.
At Dr Jones & Partners we are monitoring daily our current supply versus demand whilst looking at alternate suppliers and other methods to secure supply. We confirm this supply issue is isolated to CT and does not impact any other modalities.
We understand that you may feel uncertain about what this shortage means. We encourage you to book your appointment as normal. Our radiologists, in conjunction with your doctor, will assess if your scan can be performed safely without contrast and significantly compromising diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
